Since Kiila performed at Palimpsest back in 2005, its been on our mind to get Finish staples KY to these shores.   With thanks to a certain Finnish Cambridge resident, we've managed to get 'em.   This being their first ever English show, KY features a revolving cast of Finnish free thinkers , KY features a revolving cast of Finnish free thinkers.   We predict the sounds to be far and away.

Biography

Kemialliset Ystävät is an ever changing group of free form pilots who have been sending murky audio clouds from their basement in Tampere, Finland to the people of the world since 1995. They work in short, spooling instrumentals, building layers of simple repetitive riffs into laminal mudcakes and weaving ghosts of noise songs into huge tunnels of drone. They utilize a wide spectrum of moldy acoustic instruments and almost broken electronics to create their joyful blasts but the recording studio in itself might be their single most important instrument. Kemialliset Ystävät discography includes CDs, vinyl records, cassettes and lathe cuts on Fonal, Fusetron, Beta-Lactam Ring, Lal Lal Lal, Jewelled Antler, Celebrate Psi Phenomenom and other revolutionary labels around the world. Members of Kemialliset Ystävät are involved with other projects such as The Anaksimandros, Avarus, Islaja, Kiila, Es and Päivänsäde.

"If you've been paying attention to the world of underground psychedelic folk music lately, it would have been difficult to miss a mention of Kemialliset Ystävät (roughly translated to the English as "chemical friends"). Led by the enigmatic Jan Anderzén, Kemialliset Ystävät has been labeled variously as magical, mystical, and transcendent. These descriptions are certainly apt to describe this set of "friends", but focusing on this aspect of their work can cause a listener to miss an essential dimension of the band's sound. Because for all of its celebratory and sometimes ethereal nature, Kemialliset Ystävät's music on their latest release Alkuhärkä is incredibly grounded. One might expect this type of earthiness to be reflected in the production, where sounds were dragged through the mud and bled into each other in a lo-fi orgy of deconstruction. However, nothing could be further from the results achieved. The sonic sheen applied to Alkuhärkä accentuates its charms allowing each instrument's contribution to be heard with admirable clarity and only occasionally resorts to tape hissing obfuscation ("Nukkesaari"). This type of production only works when all the musicians' command their instruments is flawless, and the "friends" do not disappoint". Fakejazz
